IMG_20141024_181730_editTerry Robards is a career journalist who began writing about wine in the late 1960s while working at the New York Times as an economic reporter.  His writing career spans six decades and includes the publication of 5 books on wine – the best known are The New York Times Book of Wine and Terry Robards’ New Book of Wine.  He is a former wine columnist of the New York Times and the New York Post.  As a food and wine critic, Terry wrote for several glossy publications including Bon Appetit, Travel and Leisure, Where NY,  Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and Sante’.   In 1988 Terry moved to the Adirondacks and opened Terry Robards Wines and Spirits in Lake Placid.  He continued to travel and write about wine in his own publication – The Robards Report.   In the mid 1990s he became senior managing editor of Wine Enthusiast magazine. He is a member of many wine organizations world wide.   In 2012, Terry was inducted into the Wine Media Guild – Wine Writer’s Hall of Fame.  Now semi-retired from the store, Terry continues to write for The Robards Report and his blog ” Wine Talk & More. ”

0226151344(1)Julie Robards is a freelance writer, antiques columnist, book author and musician whose wine education really began in February of 2004 upon meeting Terry, her husband.  Together they have traveled to many of the world’s greatest wine events including the Concourse Mondial International Wine Competition in Bruxelles, Belgium; Le Grand Jours de Bourgogne (the Grand Days of Burgundy), and the Union des Grands Cru de Bordeaux.

Julie and Terry were married in Beaune, France in October of 2005 and have returned many times to taste their way through Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Rhone, Southern France and the Loire Valley.  In 2015, Julie was selected by the Italian Trade Commission to join a team of 15 wine professionals who traveled to the region of Puglia as guests of the Apulian government.  As delegates they attended wine tastings, went on tours of vineyards and wineries, and visited a wine museum.  After several days in Puglia, the delegation flew to Milan for the 2015 Food and Wine Expo where the majority of their visit was spent at the Italian pavilion learning about the culture, art, food and wines of Italy.

Julie is a proud member of the Chevalier du Tastevin Burgundian Wine Society.  She is the former writer and editor of the L’Ordine Della Vite Italian Wine Society newsletter and website and she continues to write freelance for magazines and newspapers with an emphasis on food, wine and spirits.  Julie is Wine Advisor for Terry Robards Wines and Spirits, overseeing educational seminars and tastings.  In 2014 she founded the Basics of Wine – Wine School, an 8-10 week course designed to introduce beginners to the wonderful world of wine.

20141011-Rob-Borden-4910Tim Robinson has been General Manager of Terry Robards Wines & Spirits since moving back to the Adirondacks from Ohio and Pennsylvania  in September, 2011.   Having been a bartender for over 16 years, Tim’s extensive knowledge and hands on experience with distilled spirits assures that the selection at the store follows current market trends in small batch craft spirits as well as fine scotch, bourbon, rye whiskey, gin, rum, flavored vodka, tequila and artisanal liqueurs.

Tim has established successful business relationships with several companies that distill premium spirits, and in turn these companies – like 44 North Vodka, Edrington Group: Macallan/Highland Park/Brugal and Western Spirits – have joined with us to offer educational tasting seminars several times a year.

In addition to working at Terry Robards Wines and Spirits, Tim also moonlights as a flair bartender at Taverna on Saranac Avenue, and Top of the Park on Main Street, in Lake Placid.

 IMG_20150404_175644April Hudson Kirschman is a native of Lake Placid who became interested in food and wine pairing after working in a number of Adirondack restaurants.  She is married to local chef Jay Kirschman, and has two children and two grandchildren.   April began working for Terry Robards Wines and Spirits in 2013 and her enthusiastic and helpful attitude has brought customer satisfaction to a whole new level.   April is an experienced sales person who is always ready and able to make pairing recommendations  for customers looking to expand their wine experience.

IMG_20150406_171002-169x300Kathie Moore began working part-time for Terry Robards Wines and Spirits in September of 2003.  Initially she expected to stay for just a few years, but Kathie can still be found at the wine shop on Thursday nights with her faithful companion, Scottie Baxter MacTavish.  Kathie enjoys meeting new people and helping customers choose the best wines and spirits for their needs.  She has worked in Lake Placid for 30+ years, the last fifteen of which have been at a local prep school.

DSCN6676Holly Robards has been official greeter and cute sales assistant at Terry Robards Wines and Spirits since the store opened on Saranac Avenue in 2012. She eagerly greets customers at the door and is always willing to do tricks for treats.

374456_422956957793038_1399447361_nCamus,  named after the famous Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,  joined the Terry Robards Wines and Spirits family in February of 2013.  As head of K9 Public Relations, Caymus enthusiastically greets customers, does tricks and poses with new product.   Caymus is also the official host of our annual Joshua Fund – Dog Benefit Wine Tasting. In additon,  Caymus, (now a lovable 4 year old), was selected for the 2017 BoozeHounds calendar sponsored by Tito’s Vodka.  Here he is as a puppy.
